…Debunks Tinubu endorsement claim
The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the revered traditional ruler had urged Nigerians to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued yesterday, and signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka, the Media Team described the report as false, malicious and an attempt to drag the Sultan into partisan politics.
The statement stressed that the Sultan, as a father figure to all Nigerians, could not endorse any political candidate or make statements favouring one aspirant over another. “It is not possible for the Sultan, as the father of all, to make such a statement, either publicly or in any other forum”, the statement said.
The Media Team urged Nigerians to disregard and condemn what it described as an unpatriotic effort to exploit the Sultan’s name for political purposes. It reiterated that the institutions of monarchy and religion led by the Sultan are non-partisan and exist to provide fatherly guidance, royal blessings and spiritual counsel to all Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations.
According to the statement, the Sultan’s doors remain open to every Nigerian seeking his advice and blessings without discrimination, adding that he has consistently maintained his role as a father to all.
The Media Team also cautioned against attempts to associate the Sultan with the campaign or candidacy of any individual ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that His Eminence remains committed to promoting peace, national unity, stability and harmonious coexistence among Nigerians.
It further called on journalists and social media users to verify information before sharing it, warning against the spread of false reports capable of misleading the public or dragging respected traditional and religious institutions into political controversies.
